How it works

Digital Passport turns your Akeneo PIM product data into scannable Digital Product Passports. Here's the whole process, start to finish.

1

Create an account and connect your PIM

Sign up with your email, then enter your Akeneo PIM API credentials in Settings. We need four things from your PIM's System > Connections page:

We only request read access. Your PIM data is never modified, and all credentials are encrypted at rest.

Don't have API credentials yet? In your Akeneo PIM, go to System > Connections, create a new connection with "Data destination" flow type, and copy the four values.

2

Create a passport configuration

A configuration defines what a passport looks like and what data it shows. You set:

The Starter plan includes 3 configurations. Professional supports up to 15, and Enterprise is unlimited.

If you select a regulated category (like batteries), we show you the mandatory fields and which ones you've mapped. A compliance score updates as you go.

3

Generate QR codes and go live

Once your configuration is saved, you can generate QR codes for any product in your PIM.

Print the QR codes on your product labels. When a consumer scans with any phone camera, they see a mobile-friendly passport page with your product data - always live from your PIM.

4

What consumers see

A clean, branded mobile page showing the product attributes you configured - materials, origin, sustainability data, certifications, whatever you choose. The page:

Common questions

Do I need to code anything?
No. Everything is configured through the web interface. If you want deeper integration, there's a JSON API available on paid plans.
What happens when I update data in my PIM?
The passport page updates automatically after the cache expires (default: 1 hour). You can clear the cache manually for instant updates.
Is this only for EU compliance?
No. You can use it for any product and any data. The EU compliance features (regulation field mapping, deadlines, compliance scores) are there if you need them, but they're optional.
Which Akeneo editions are supported?
Any edition with API access - Growth Edition, Enterprise Edition, or a self-hosted Community Edition with the API enabled.
Can I have different passports for different markets?
Yes. Create separate configurations per channel and locale. Each gets its own set of QR codes.
How is my data secured?
API credentials are encrypted with AES-256. Passwords are bcrypt-hashed. Two-factor authentication is available. All connections use HTTPS. We're GDPR compliant with full data deletion on request.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes. The Starter plan is completely free: 1 passport configuration, unlimited QR codes, public access, 30-day audit trail. No credit card required. Upgrade to Professional (£49/month) or Enterprise (£199/month) when you need more configurations, bulk generation, API access, or advanced compliance features.
What happens if I downgrade or cancel?
Your data is kept but features beyond your new plan's limits are disabled. Excess passport configurations are deactivated (not deleted) and their public links return a 404. You can upgrade again at any time to reactivate them.
